ARLS: QAYG

All Roads Lead Somewhere (ARLS) lends itself to Quilt-As-You-Go (QAYG).

Four ARLS blocks: two singles and one pair
Four ARLS blocks: two singles and one pair

Consider these four quilted blocks. The two single blocks on the left do not align with the pair on the right because their seam allowances are not sewn together as on the right. Trim away the seam allowances, and the blocks will align just fine.

To join the two sections, I am going to use two strips of background fabric, one for the front and one for the back of the quilt.

For the front strip, I cut a length of fabric three times the seam allowance times two, plus 1/8 inch. Fold wrong sides together and press.

For the back strip, I cut a length of fabric four times the seam allowance times two. Fold wrong sides together and press.

With raw edges together, sandwich quilted section between upper and lower strips. Pin, stitch, and press seams away from quilt.

Place second quilted section face down. Place first quilted section face up with folded edge of strip even with raw edge, aligning sides. Pin, stitch, and press seam away from quilt.

On front, fold top strip over seam allowances. Stitch along both edges of strip through all layers.

Repeat the same to add the pair of blocks. Remember to trim away seam allowances where joining.
