No, this is not about bears in the woods.
I have been commissioned to create a quilt for a Star Trek fan(atic).
I would not have considered this quilt had not my recent works been spherical Celtic knots. Planets are spherical too.
I found a coloring book page on the Internet.
I designed a new spherical knot to replace the cratered moon.
What sort of planet is this? Well, oceans would be nice.
How about some jungles, open ground, and mountains?
Think I’ll take it . . .
I have set a challenge for myself.
I will make two quilts this month. One quilt will be patchwork, the other quilt applique. Both quilts will use the same rainbow palette of fabrics.
The working title of the patchwork quilt is “Jesus Loves the Little Children.” This is a line drawing of it. You may recognize it as my “Running Man” (or “Mardi Gras Men”).
The applique quilt will be a Hextic knot.
Both finished quilts will be displayed the first Sunday of December at a local café.
I invite you to watch my progress.
Here are two Celtic knots. They have two paths each.
I wondered what would happen if they intersected each other.
I think they would look like this:
When Celtic knots intersect, Celtic knots interact.
The new knot has four paths.
One path encompasses the outline of both knots.
One path completes the lower right knot.
One path completes the upper left knot.
One path links Paths Two and Three together.
Here’s what they look like layered, but unwoven.
Here they are, woven.
What do you think of this variation?
So far, I have completed three quilts from my pile of UFOs.
All three quilts are for sale. You can find them on the Home page.
